Clarify for Mac
Dictation for developers: talk to your agent, your terminal and your team.
More of a developer's day is writing in plain words: prompts for a coding agent, commit messages, review comments, replies in chat. Clarify lets you say them instead, and the same key moves you around your Mac.
Free forever, now in beta. Apple silicon Macs, macOS 14 or later. English.
A prompt, spoken
Hold Right ⌘ and Right ⌥ and talk through what you want, the way you'd explain it to a colleague. Let go, and clean, punctuated text is pasted once at your cursor: in the terminal where your agent is waiting, in your editor, or in a pull request. "Um, so the tests fail because the fixture loads before the database is ready" arrives as one clean sentence.
The same key gets you there and sends it:
- Switch to Terminal. Brings Terminal forward if it's running.
- Scratch that. Presses Undo, if you'd rather say it differently.
- Press Return. Sends it.
- Ask Claude how to squash the last three commits. Opens Claude with your question, ready to send.
Made for the words around code
- Your vocabulary. Teach it the names of your projects, libraries and teammates in Settings, so they come out right.
- Saved clips. Copy a staging URL and say "Save this as staging URL." Later, "Paste staging URL." brings it back.
- Quick notes. "Quick note: check the retry logic" saves the thought with the date instead of pasting it.
- Nothing you say leaves your Mac. Recognition and cleanup run on your Mac, with the models inside the app and no account, so what you say about unreleased code stays with you.
- Protected fields stay private. Clarify never reads or writes text in password and other protected fields.
- Commands only when you mean them. It acts only when everything you said is a command, so "remind me to switch to Terminal after lunch" is typed as a sentence.
Coming in version 1
- Coming in v1 Compose: think out loud, and get back a reply, a spec, a list or a commit message shaped to the app you're in
- Coming in v1 Siri, Claude and coding agents can use Clarify through App Intents, a command-line tool and MCP
- Coming in v1 A searchable clipboard timeline, kept only on your Mac and encrypted: "paste the last URL"
- Coming in v1 Chains, such as "Open Safari, then paste the clip", with an honest result for each step
